Tonia Barber

Tonia Barber is a seasoned independent producer with a skill for curating and producing live dance, art, and documentary films. As a multi-faceted producer Barber is known for problem solving “out of the box” thinking for small budgets.


In 2020, Barber completed producing Matthew Diamond’s feature film documentary EXALTATION, capturing the worldwide phenomenon of religious dance in 18 countries including Peru, Haiti, Japan, Turkey, Cambodia and India. Barber managed all aspects of funding, research, locations, overseeing budgets in all countries as well as post- production, music and marketing assets. The film is currently preparing for the festival circuit.


Barber secured locations and marketing strategies, for 11- time Festival Award Winning feature Show Me What You Got, Executive Produced by Phillip Noyce, Directed by Svetlana Cvetko.


Barber has presented Wim Wenders (Pina), Bess Kargman (First Position), Tomer Heymann (Mr. Gaga) as well as top dance companies Pilobolus, Jacob Jonas The Company and BODYTRAFFIC during her seven years as the Executive Director of Dance Camera West in Los Angeles, producing the annual 4-day festival at the most prominent Los Angeles venues including the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, The Music Center and Royce Hall.


Prior to producing the festival, Barber produced and funded film indies Interstate 84, Executive Produced by Kevin Spacey starring Kevin Dillon, premiering at the Toronto Film Festival, and racecar indie, QuattroNoza, directed by Joey Curtis, premiering in competition at Sundance taking home the Best Cinematography prize. During that time Barber also wrote, directed and produced the short, RAW which premiered at Sundance and AFI FEST.


Barber’s early career started as a dancer on scholarship with the Joffrey Ballet in New York City and premiered on the Broadway stage at age 17. Her credits include 42nd Street and Tommy Tunes’ 9-time Tony winner The Will Roger’s Follies. Barber spent 10 years in the fashion industry working with the likes of Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Donna Karen.
